5 Spaces You Can Transform in Just 5 Minutes

Getting organized can feel overwhelming. We get it. The thought of having to sort through and think about solutions for storing your items can be a lot! But living with clutter and chaotic spaces can be equally (if not more) overwhelming.

It doesn’t have to take much time or energy to make small changes and get organized! Just think about all those times you mindlessly scroll on social media or play games on your phone. Now, imagine if you used those five minutes in a different, more productive way? Because believe it or not, sometimes that’s all it takes!

This month, we’re sharing five different spaces in your home that you can get organized in just five minutes - you’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish in such a short time.

1. Shoes at the front door

The front door, entryway, or mudroom is the first point of access into your home. You don’t want to be greeted with piles of shoes the minute you walk in the door. That's chaotic energy you don’t need to add to your life. So, take some time to pair up and line up your shoes. If you have a shoe rack, put all the shoes away. Any shoes that don't fit, should find a new home (either at another entry point or in a closet). Getting your shoes tidied will help your space feel calm and collected from the moment you walk in the door.

2. Incoming mail

We all have it. The dreaded pile of junk mail that accumulates and then haunts us throughout the week. I promise, you’ll be surprised how fast you’ll be able to go through this. The majority is probably junk mail anyways! Recycle or toss anything that is junk and hang on to anything that needs to be handled. Better yet, toss junk mail right when it enters your home and save your mail drop zone from becoming a mountain of papers and envelopes!

Bonus 5 minutes: take any paper bills that you’re still receiving and sign up for electronic bills. This will give you one less item of mail to sort through or deal with when you tackle your mail organizing moving forward!

Sage Product recommendation: Create your mail drop zone using a file sorter rather than a tray or box. A filing system looks cleaner and more purposeful than a pile of envelopes and papers. Trust us, your space (and future self) will thank you.

Clear Desktop

3. Desktop of your home office

Clear off the surface of your desk or home office. Put away any pens or pencils that might be lying around. File away any paperwork that needs to be kept and recycle anything that doesn’t. A clear space translates to a clear brain and your workday will be so much more pleasant without a messy surface to distract you!

Nightstand

4. Nightstand

This space is where you end your day. It should be an area of peace and calm - not a pile of chaos next to your head as you drift off to sleep. Eliminate any clutter in this space by placing items into drawers or bins and you’ll be amazed at how much better you’ll sleep! You’ll also get to wake up and have a clean slate to start your day.

Snack Drawer

5. Snack cabinet or drawer

This one is my favorite. Who doesn’t love snacks?! Get rid of any expired items or mostly-empty bags or boxes. No one wants to grab a bag with only four chips left. Toss that sh*t out. From there, make sure the items you grab the most often are the most accessible and that all the other items are organized so you know where everything is. Voila - an easy way to avoid getting angry.

Organizing doesn’t have to be intimidating or overwhelming! You can tackle all these spaces in one go and be done in under 30 minutes! Or, take it one zone at a time throughout the week. Either way, we guarantee you’ll notice the transformation in your space and feel more at ease.
