How often to you wake up to a towering dirty laundry pile and wish there was a laundry fairy to come whisk it all away? I dunno about you, but I wish that ALL THE TIME! Someone asked me recently for tips on how to tackle the dirty laundry and I realized there are a few different solutions I could share!
First and foremost, I’m always in favor of going through my wardrobe once a season to see if there is anything that can be donated. I consider donating an item if its no longer my style, no longer fits quite right, or if it’s gently worn but I know someone else could still get a ton of use out of it. You can also think about it this way; say you have two white sweaters, you consider both, but always choose sweater one over sweater two, you will NEVER wear sweater two. It will continue to sit there, unworn, collecting dust. Let it go! The more items that are in my closet I actually want to wear, the more inspired I am to do laundry so I can wear them again!
Here are a few more cost-effective solutions you can try! Move the laundry basket out of the bedroom where it’s in full view and into a closet or bathroom. This will ease the sense of chaos it creates. Physical clutter manifests psychological clutter. Eliminating the eyesore from highly trafficked areas will cut down on the stress it causes.
In my home, my fiance and I have our own hampers. He is not a huge fan of doing laundry and I am not a huge fan of the pile that accumulates. So, once the hamper is full, I grab an EXTRA laundry bag. I move all the dirty laundry into the bag and put it into his closet. Sure, this creates some extra work separating colors once its time to do laundry, but having a tidy corner for another two weeks makes it all worth it!
If doing laundry more often, moving the hamper, adding an extra bag and purging down to the best-of-the-best STILL doesn’t get you in the laundry mood, you could always consider sending your laundry out. Of course, this will cost extra money, but it’s up to you how valuable your time is. Maybe its worth spending a little extra money each week to save those precious hours.
